Funding Awarded to Rapid Dimension
Rapid Dimension has received Vinnova funding to develop field-adapted 3D printers and signature-reducing materials, strengthening Sweden’s defense capabilities and innovation in additive manufacturing.
Rapid Dimension has recently received funding from Vinnova to develop field-adapted 3D printers and signature-reducing materials for the Swedish Armed Forces. This investment marks an important step in strengthening Sweden’s capabilities in additive manufacturing for defense applications.
The project addresses the growing need for robust and mobile manufacturing systems that can operate close to the field, even under extreme conditions. By combining proven civil 3D printing technology with defense-specific requirements, Rapid Dimension is developing a complete system together with Add North and RISE. The system enables the rapid production of critical components while reducing electromagnetic and thermal signatures. It is designed to ensure reliable performance even in challenging environments.
The technology includes field-adapted hardware, materials specially developed for military applications, and a secure digital supply chain, allowing operational units to produce critical parts locally, quickly, and safely. Beyond its defense applications, the project also demonstrates strong dual-use potential, showing how civil innovation can be adapted to meet demanding operational needs while supporting Sweden’s industrial resilience and competitiveness.
This initiative represents a significant step toward building Swedish capability for field-adapted additive manufacturing, with the potential to strengthen both defense readiness and industrial innovation.
